Prof. Kuo-Fong Ma is a Joint Appointed Professors at Department of Earth Sciences, National Central University Taiwan. She is also a Distinguished Research Fellow at Institute of Earth Sciences, Academia Sinica, Taiwan. Furthermore, she acts as Chief Scientist of Taiwan Earthquake Research Center (TEC), MoST. Moreover, she is a Director of Earthquake- Disaster & Risk Evaluation and Risk Management (E-DREaM) Center, Taiwan. She received her Ph.D. degree from Seismological Laboratory of California Institute of Technology, supervised by a well-known seismologist, Prof. Hiroo Kanamori.
Prof Ma’s research interests include Earthquake Seismology, Earthquake Physics, Engineering, and Seismotectonics. The most extensive scientific interests and contributions of her works are for the understanding of physics of earthquakes through deep scientific drilling (Ma et al., Nature, 2006), and on the innovative seismic data analysis of discovery on isotropic events from fault zone in-situ borehole seismometers (Ma et al., Science, 2012), and for the integration study in seismic hazard mitigation toward Taiwan Earthquake Model (TEM) and the member of Global Earthquake Model (GEM). And, thus, the first public release Taiwan National Seismic Hazard Map with the Ministry of Science and Technology in November 2015.
She had received the distinguished research award from the American Geophysical Union (AGU) in 2019. The honor was bestowed on only 0.1% of AGU membership in any given year. She had also received the distinguished research award of National Science Council Taiwan in 2000 and 2010. Additionally, She has 105 papers in Scopus index with 32 H-index.
